Erissery is also an important dish made during the festival feast. A variety of Erisseris can be made with different types of vegetables but normally it is made of raw plantains and yams. Erissery is a popular dish in the Kerala cuisine and can be prepared by substituting different vegetables, pulses or a combination of vegetables and pulses.
Cherupayar Mathanga Erissery (Green Gram Pumpkin Curry Kerala Style) is a healthy, mild sweet and less spicy curry. This tasty vegetarian treat also an essential part of Kerala Onam and Vishu Sadya. In Kerala, this curry can be served on banana leaves as a side dish (dry or semi watery texture).

Ingredients:
Yellow pumpkin/mathanga-1cup(cubed)
Yam/senai/karunai kizhangu-1cup(cubed)
Raw banana(vazhaikai)-1cup(cubed)
Green gram/cherupayar-1/2cup
Grated coconut-1 cup
Chilli powder-1 tsp
Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
Shallots- 3 to 4 nos
Pepper seeds-1tsp
Cumin seeds-1tsp
Salt - to taste
Water- 1to 2 cup
Seasoning ingredients:
Coconut oil-50ml
Mustard seeds- 1 tsp
Red chilly- 2
Curry leaves -2 spring
Preparation:
Cut the vegetables,grated coconut.
Grind the masala ingredients grated coconut,shallots,chilly powder,pepper seeds,cumin seeds in half chutney form.
Method:
Take the cooker,put the pumpkin,yam,raw banana,green gram, salt,turmeric powder an add the 1 and1/2 cup of water.
Close the lid,on the stove till wait for the 2 whistle.
After release the air in cooker,open the lid.
Add the grinded masala.
Mix well.boil in the gravy in medium flame 1 to 2 minutes.
